Project narrative

In September 2017, the Government of China inaugurated the opening of The Confucius Institute at the University of Panama. The Institute was intended to hold Mandarin courses for 400 students. The Government of China and the Government of Panama each financed fifty percent of the project. The project's costs included the construction of new facilities to enhance teaching including two classrooms for basic and advanced students of Mandarin, a library, an audiovisual department, and some administrative offices. Language teachers were also supplied by the Beijing International Studies University. On March 19, 2019, The Confucius Institute unveiled a new teaching site in the Science and Technology Department at the University of Panama. The opening of classes for the new site occurred on June 18, 2019.
