Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

On January 22, 2016, Hanban and Quisqueya University signed a cooperation agreement to set up Chinese language classes at Quisqueya University. Previously, on October 28, 2015, the Chinese Government's China Commercial Development Office in Haiti and Quisqueya University discussed intentions to send Chinese teachers to Haiti to offer the courses, with the Chinese covering the teacher’s salaries and round-trip travel expenses. On September 26, 2016, Quisqueya University held the opening ceremony of its Chinese language center, known as the Confucius Center of Quisqueya University (French: Centre Confucius de l’Université Quisqueya), which had the support of Hanban. Chinese courses were set to begin that same month, with one full-time Chinese teacher available. The language courses are being offered as a precursor to the potential development of a Confucius Institute at the university. In 2019, Hanban and Quisqueya University signed an agreement to establish a Confucius Classroom at Quisqueya University, as captured by linked Record ID#71534.
