Both of these contracts were supported by grant assistance from the Chinese Government. Third Railway Survey and Design Institute of China (renamed as China Railway Design Corporation (CRDC) ) was responsible for the design of the road. CSCE was responsible for construction of the road. Through this project, a 2.3 km road segment from Gala Junction Bridge at Kiribathgoda to Kadawatha of Colombo Kandy Road (A001) was widened to four lanes with a 1.2 m centre median, a 1.4 m hard shoulder and a 1.6 m soft shoulder both sides.
