Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

On June 5, 2014, at the China-Arab Cooperation Forum Ministerial Meeting, Xi Jinping announced that the Chinese Government would provide Lebanon with a batch of humanitarian assistance worth RMB 30 million. Lebanon's Minister of Social Affairs Rashid Derbas and Chinese Ambassador to Lebanon Jiang Jiang signed the grant agreement on November 5, 2014. The aid package consisted of medical equipment, sporting goods, tarps and tents for the purpose of assisting with the Syrian refugee crisis. This grant represents one of three humanitarian assistance packages that the Chinese Government provided to Lebanon for the Syrian refugee crisis from 2011-2016. The total value of these three packages was RMB 45 million (See Record ID#65815 for the umbrella project). No information about the other two packages has been identified, but according to multiple sources, they were separate from the $2 million of humanitarian cash assistance given to Lebanon through the World Health Organization (see Record ID#65816).
