220 Ethiopian students receive Chinese Government Scholarships for masters and doctoral programs.

On 24 August 2018, during an award ceremony attended by both Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, and Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia Tan Jian, 220 Ethiopian students were awarded with Chinese Government scholarships to study in Masters or PhD programs in China. According to Xinhua media reporting, of the 220 recipients, 166 will be studying for their masters in social and natural sciences, whereas 54 students will be enrolled in PhD programs. Previous award ceremonies were held on August 8, 2018 for other students who will also be attending masters and doctoral programs, and these ceremonies were attended by Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia, Tan Jian.

STAFF_NOTE: According to CGTN (source: Chinese gov't provides more than 1,450 scholarships), in the first half of 2018 there were a total of 220 students who received Chinese scholarships to study in Masters and PhD programs abroad. Previously there was a project - 60401 (now deactivated) which detailed some scholarships which were awarded at a different ceremony. For consistency one project was created which lists all of the students who received scholarships as there is no indication that these scholarships differ from the Chinese Ministry of Education sponsored program.
