Project narrative
On September 1, 2008, the Chinese Government and the Government of Cote d'Ivoire signed an exchange of notes in which the Chinese Government agreed to provide an RMB 3 million grant for the Malaria Research and Control Center Project. According to the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, from March 14th to April 26th, experts from the Chinese Aid Malaria Prevention and Treatment Center arrived in Côte d'Ivoire to begin their work. It should be noted that training was provided in addition to the grant. This project involved the establishment of a Malaria Research and Control Center (Centre de Recherche et de Lutte contre le Paludisme or CRLP) at the National Institute of Public Health (Institut National de Santé Publique or INSP) in the Adjame district of Abidjan. The implementing contractor is unknown. On 7 April 2009, Ivorian and Chinese government officials attended the opening ceremony for the center. The Malaria Research and Control Center was badly damaged during the 2011 post-election crisis. The Chinese Government subsequently provided another grant to support rehabilitation of the center (see record #66116).
