On July 23, 2015, Chinese Government and Nepal Government signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the Planning of Post-earthquake Reconstruction Assistance Projects. Earthquake Monitoring Network Project(中国援尼泊尔地震监测台网建设) is one of the assisting post-disaster reconstruction projects launched by the Chinese reconstruction after Nepal Earthquake. The project was undertaken by the Institute of Geophysics, China Earthquake Administration, the Development Research Center of China Earthquake Administration, and the Nepal Department of Mines and Geology. Through this project, a national seismic data center was established in Kathmandu, 2 data backup centers were built in Biratnagar, and 10 seismic observatories were equipped in the northern part of Nepal to monitor and warn earthquakes of magnitude 3 and above in Nepal. The project started on May 2018. On October 13, 2019, The Delivery and Acceptance Certificate for the China-Aid Earthquake Monitoring Network Project in Nepal was signed and the monitoring network was officially put into operation. The Institute of Geophysics, China Earthquake Administration and the Development Research Center of China Earthquake Administration are responsible for implementation. This is most likely one of the 25 post-earthquake relief projects financed by the China Ministry of Commerce (see Umbrella Record ID#43970).
