Project narrative

On May 13, 2017, the 15th batch of Chinese peacekeepers completed its rotation in Lebanon as part of the UN Interim Forces In Lebanon (UNIFIL). The group consisted of 410 soldiers and was deployed in the border area of southern Lebanon next to Israel for tasks related to mine clearance and detonation, border pile planting, engineering, construction and maintenance, and humanitarian relief for a period of one year. China has sent UNFIL peacekeeping forces to Lebanon every year from 2006 to 2020. The program was temporarily suspended due to COVID-19 on June 30, 2020, but reinstated in August 2020 to respond to the Beirut explosion. See Record ID#41114 for the full project.
