Full Description

Project narrative

From October 13 to November 2, 2015, a group of Barbadian tourism industry representatives visited China for a Bilateral Tourism Management Seminar funded by the Chinese government. The seminar consisted of lectures on a variety of topics, including tourism management and marketing, health and wellness tourism, sustainable development in the sector, and the protection of cultural heritage. It also included tours of hotels and tourist attractions throughout the Hainan and Shaanxi provinces. For a complete list of lecture topics and specific attractions visited, see Nation News' "Tourism officials to attend seminar in China." The following organizations from Barbados were represented at the seminar: the Barbados Ministry of Tourism and International Transport; the Barbados Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports; Intimate Hotels of Barbados Incorporated; the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association; Barbados Tourism Marketing Incorporation; Barbados Tourism Product Authority; Needham’s Point Development Incorporated; the Barbados Coalition of Service Industries; and the Barbados-China Association. Lectures were held at the Commercial Training Center belonging to the Hainan Province Department of Commerce. This was the third bilateral seminar between the China and Barbados. The Barbados Advocate reports that twenty representatives attended the event; Nation News reported that nineteen attended. The Chinese Embassy source, the most official source in this case, reported that the delegation only consisted of seventeen people.
