Description
In October 2018, the Chinese Government committed TSh16.6 billion TZS to supporting the construction of a children's cardiac facility. The Government of Tanzania is providing another TSh10 billion TZS towards the completion of the project. This facility will be treated as an extension of the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute (JKCI) to provide more space for heart patients of all ages. The new facility will have a capacity of between 280 and 350 beds, compared to the prior capacity of 128 beds. The facility will also provide medical assistance to countries such as Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Zambia, Malawi, Comoros, and others. As of June 29, 2019, a feasibility study had been completed on the expansion of the cardiac institute, and the project has moved into the implementation stage.
