On March 18th, 2019, a re-opening ceremony for a newly renovated table-tennis hall took place in Malé, capital of the Maldives. The ceremony was attended by Zhang Lizhong, Chinese Ambassador to Maldives; Ali Waheed, Maldives Minister of Tourism; as well as Liu Xiaoda, the representative of China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) in the Maldives. Minister Waheed presented the newly renovated hall to the Table Tennis Association of Maldives on behalf of the government of the Maldives. During the ceremony, the Chinese Embassy donated table tennis equipment. See project #72523 for further information. CMEC funded and implemented the renovation of the table-tennis hall. According to CMEC, the project started construction early in 2019, and was finished within 55 days. The renovation included a total interior remodel, along with the installation of air-conditioning. CMEC is a subsidiary of Sinomach, a Chinese state owned company.
