Project narrative

On 18 July 2018, the Chinese Ambassador to Cameroon, Wang Yingwu and Cameroon's Minister of Defense, Joseph Beti Assomo, signed a military assistance agreement worth 4.5 billion francs CFA (approximately USD7.9 million). The type and quantity of military equipment to be supplied Cameroon by China will be determined by Cameroonian officials based on their needs; the Cameroonian government will be responsible for the transportation costs. The purpose of the grant was to assist the Cameroon defense forces and reinforce their capacities in peacekeeping and security operations in the region. Implementation of the agreement is expected to last five years.
