Description

On May 23, 2020, four epidemiologists sent by China came to Lima to help in the fight against COVID-19. The team was established by the National Health Commission of China and selected by the Health Commission of Guangdong Province and the members were from the Southern Hospital of Southern Medical University. They are experts in respiratory and critical care medicine, infection management, and neurology. In their ten-day stay, they shared knowledge on epidemic prevention and containment as well as providing training for medical professionals. The team departed from China on March 22 and returned on June 10. They participated in 40 exchange and training activities, and cooperated with the Peruvian National Epidemic Fighting Command Center, the Ministry of Health, the National Institutes of Health, the Social Medical Security Bureau and a number of medical institutions such as the World Health Organization. The members of the team were Guo Yi, an expert in public health management, Liu Laiyu, an expert in respiratory and critical care, Wu Yongming, an expert in neurology and critical care medicine, and Zhou Hao, an expert in hospital infection prevention and control.
