Project narrative

In 2016, Poly Technologies, Inc., a Chinese state-owned enterprise, issued a $50,050,000 supplier's credit (loan) to the Government of Zambia for the Ndola City Roads Construction and Upgrade Project. The borrowing terms of the loan are unknown. The project involves the rehabilitation of 42.9 km kilometers of township roads to a bituminous standard in the city of Ndola. It seeks to link Ndola roads and create some bypasses to de-congest Ndola’s Central Business District. A key feature of the project is the link of Chifubu- Mitengo Kansenshi-Chifubu and Mitengo-Hillcrest via Mufulira road to Independence road (through Kanini area) in the Central Business District. Another key feature is that the Kanini-Hill Crest link will seek to decongest traffic during football matches and various social activities at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium. The list of the roads to be rehabilitated includes: Mitengo Chifubu link, James Phiri, Kanongesha, Nkandabwe, Bukafu, Jacaranda, TDRC Loop, Nelson Mandela, Mukuni/Gwembe, Chisokone Avenue, Lufunsa/Kasuba, Lubwa, Sekela, Tanzania, Pamodzi-Minsundu, Mafuta, Katondo, and Mitengo- Kasenshi link. Poly Technologies, Inc. is the contractor responsible for project implementation, Construction began on April 1, 2018. The project was originally scheduled to begin in March 2016. The project had an original scheduled completion date of August 2018. The project has reportedly been completed, but it precise completion date is unknown.
