Project narrative

On February 23, 2018, the Chinese Embassy in Barbados held a reception at Accra Beach Resort and Spa to celebrate both the arrival of Ambassador Yan Xiusheng in Barbados and the 2018 Chinese New Year. About 200 people attended the reception, including Barbadian government officials, Chinese citizens living abroad, representatives of Chinese-funded enterprises, the Chinese Medical Team, representatives from the Confucius Institute at the University of the West Indies' (UWI's) Cave Hill Campus, and members of the Barbadian public from various industries and careers. The reception was intended to further promote cooperation between the China and Barbados. Activities included educational presentations from the Confucius Institute about Chinese calligraphy, tea art, paper cutting, and dumpling making, as well as the showing of the promotional videos and pictures about the One Belt One Road initiative and Chinese New Year and performances from the "Beautiful Tianjin" Art Troupe (“美丽天津”艺术团). This project was part of the fourth Fish and Dragon Festival, from February 22 and 24, 2018, to commemorate the Chinese New Year (Record ID#72995).
