Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

From April 17 to May 28, 2012, an employee of Barbados’ National Conservation Commission (NCC) attended the Flower Production Technology for Developing Countries training seminar. The seminar was funded by an unspecified Chinese government institution and organized by the Fujian Institute of Subtropical Botany. Course content included lectures, discussions, and field trips to educate participants about, among other things, trends in the flower industry, flower cultivation, flower arrangements and applications, bonsai making, bamboo cultivation, and building a greenhouse. For the NCC, the training course was intended to increase efficiency and enhance a major source of revenue for the Commission–their plant nursery operation–by allowing the seminar attendee to train other staff members in the techniques he had learned while in Fujian.
