Description
In 2016, the Chinese Government provided a $1 million grant to the University of Ghana for the Confucius Institute Office Building Construction Project. This project involved the construction of a 3-story building with with a ground floor (500㎡), first floor (500㎡) and an attic (300㎡). It includes an assembly hall, a reading room, offices and classrooms (multimedia classroom and language lab). The attic is designed as a cultural exhibition center dedicated to the display of Chinese cultural products, such as tea art, mahjong, Chinese zodiac, and weapons of war. A formal groundbreaking ceremony was held on July 25, 2016 and construction began August 2016. Construction ended in November 2017 and a formal handover ceremony took place on November 29, 2016. The Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana was first established in May 2013 (see Project ID#52245). It started operations in April 2014.
