Description

In 2005, the Chinese Government provided a grant to the Government of Burundi for the COTEBU Textile Plant Rehabilitation Project. This project involved the provision and installation of a rotary screen printing machine production line at the Complexe Textile de Bujumbura (COTEBU)— a cotton production plant — and rehabilitation of the workshop where the new production line was installed. The completion of this new production line was expected to improve product quality and market competitiveness at the plant. Dalian Jiuzhou Construction Group Co., Ltd. was the contractor responsible for project implementation. This project entered implementation on March 20, 2006 and was completed on December 19, 2006. However, COTEBU filed for bankruptcy in 2007. It subsequently came under the management of a Mauritian company called Afri-textile.
