Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

In 2011, the Chinese Government agreed to provide a grant to the Government of Burundi for the Second Phase of the Hydroelectric Power Plant Technical Cooperation Project. This commitment was codified in letters of exchange that signed by the two governments on On January 11 and 18, 2011. The Second Phase of the Hydroelectric Power Plant Technical Cooperation Project supported the maintenance of three hydroelectric power plants in Burundi: the 8MW Mugere Hydroelectric Power Plant, the 1.28 MW Ruvyironza Hydroelectric Power Plant, and the 0.85MW Gikonge Hydroelectric Power Plant. The first phase of this project was completed in 2008 (see Record ID#73414). It is unknown when the second phase of the project was completed, but it can be assumed that the project did reach completion because the Chinese Government funded a Third Phase of the Hydroelectric Power Plant Technical Cooperation Project in 2015 (see Record ID#73416).
