Chinese Government provides a grant for the Kara Convention Center Maintenance Project

Project narrative

In 2001, China’s Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) provided a grant to the Government of Togo for the Kara Convention Center Maintenance Project. The monetary value of this grant commitment is unknown. The project involved the maintenance of a convention center in the city of Kara (French: le Palais de Congrès de Kara). The Kara Conference building was constructed between January 1979 and October 1982. China provided assistance during its construction. The building covered an area of 8.76 hectares. It featured a 1,500-seat stairway hall, a 500-seat banquet hall, a 200-seat movie theater, presidential and prime minister suites, VIP suites, meeting rooms, a reception hall, and a press conference hall. China Shenyang International Economic & Technical Cooperation Co,. Ltd. (CSYIC) was responsible for the center's maintenance, and it dispatched 7 technicians to do so. Technical cooperation at the building was ongoing as of October 2006.
