Project narrative

On August 1, 2012, the Chinese Government and the Government of Togo signed an exchange of notes regarding the Confucius Institute Building Construction Project. China’s Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) provided the entire funding for the project through a RMB 16 million grant (or CFA 1.3 billion). This project involved the construction of a new teaching building for the Confucius Institute at the University of Lomé, which opened in 2009 as captured by linked Record ID#31311. The new teaching building included three floors that featured a multi-functional hall, a language room, a cultural experience center, an administrative office, and a teaching and research room. The Sixth Design Institute of China National Machinery Industry Co., Ltd. (also known as Sixth Design and Research Institute of Machinery Industry) signed a project design contract with the University of Lomé on October 1, 2012. China Jiangxi International Economic and Technical Cooperation Co., Ltd. (CJIC) was the contractor responsible for implementation. The handover ceremony for the project was held on September 30, 2015.
