Full Description

Project narrative

In December 2000, the Chinese Government and the Government of the Republic of Congo signed a grant agreement worth CFA 1.5 billion for the Alphonse Massamba-Debat Stadium Rehabilitation Project. This project involved the rehabilitation of the Alphonse Massamba-Debat stadium in the capital city of Brazzaville. More specifically, the project sought to increase the seating capacity of the stadium from 17,500 to 20,000 and to construct two VIP lounges, a hotel with ten rooms, a restaurant, modern locker rooms, and facilities for volleyball, handball, and basketball. Weihai International Economic & Technical Cooperative Co., Ltd. (WIETC) was the contractor responsible for implementation of the project. Rehabilitation works began on January 15, 2001, and the newly-renovated stadium was officially inaugurated on February 19, 2002. The French project title is Le projet de réhabilitation du stade de football Alphonse Massamba Débat or Le projet de réhabilitation du stade de football Alphonse Massamba-Débat. The Chinese project title is 马桑巴·代巴体育场技术合作项目 or 中国援刚果(布)马桑巴•代巴体育场维修项目.

Staff comments

1. The article "Congo: China announces US $5.7 million grant for reconstruction" states that the transaction amount of the project is CFA 1.5 billion. However, since no official documents verify the amount, AidData did not add a transaction amount for the project. 2. The project is marked by MOFCOM as Chinese Aid. Based on this, AidData set the flow type as grant and set the flow class as ODA-like.
