Description
In 2008, China’s Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) agreed to provide an RMB 40 million grant to the North Korean Government for the provision of spare parts to support the operations and maintenance (O&M) of the Pyongyang Metro and the 1600MW Pukchang Coal-Fired Power Plant. China National Complete Plant Import & Export Corp. Ltd. (COMPLANT or 中成进出口股份有限公司) was the contractor responsible for implementation. However, AidData has not identified any evidence of project implementation.
Additional details
1. The Chinese project title is 年度向朝鲜提供零配件项目. 2. The Pyongyang Metro was the first modern urban rail project built with Chinese aid. It was completed in 1975. 3. This is an O&M project supported via recurring grants from MOFCOM between 2001 and 2008. However, AidData was not able to identify any further evidence of financial support from MOFCOM after 2008. As such, no additional MOFCOM grants are recorded after 2008.
