Chinese Government pledges $100,000 for relief efforts after the Central Visayas Earthquake in Philippines

Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

In 2013, after the Central Visayas Earthquake hit the island of Bohol, the Chinese Government pledged USD $100,000 to the Government of the Philippines to help support relief efforts. This donation was pledged to reportedly support post-disaster relief efforts and rehabilitation in areas affected by earthquake in Bohol, Cebu and the rest of Central Visayas (through the Philippines government and local Taiwanese communities). The exact allocation for the pledge is unknown. The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) Financial Tracking Service lists the project as flow ID #109714. This donation became target for criticism, as some viewed it as particularly stingy in light of previous donations from China, as well as larger forms of aid from other countries. China later sent a hospital ship, the "Peace Ark," equipped with a medical team. In addition, they pledged another 1.4 million USD in disaster aid relief.
