Description
According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) Financial Tracking Service (flow ID 157202), on 17 April 2017, the Chinese government committed a total of $4 million USD to the World Food Programme (WFP) for emergency food assistance in Chad. Of the $4 million USD, $3,213,308 USD was allocated toward an emergency operation (ID 200777) "providing life-saving support to households in Cameroon, Chad, and Niger directly affected by insecurity in northern Nigeria." The remaining $786,692 USD is captured in project #55819. This donation is marked as fully paid. The Chinese government officially handed over the food donation to the Government of Chad on 7 June 2017. According to WFP press releases, this donation helped feed nearly 60,000 people in the Lake Chad region. Page 60 of the operation's Standard Project Report 2017 says the Chinese aid specifically purchased corn soya blend, rice, split peas, vegetable oil, and millet.
