In 2010, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce sponsored the Technical Training Course for Desertification Prevention and Control in Arab Countries. The Department of Commerce of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and the Ningxia Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences also sponsored the training, which was hosted in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. The Ningxia Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences ran the training. There were 19 trainees - professors and experts - representing 11 Arab countries. These 11 countries included Syria, Iraq, and Egypt. The training course covered desertification and sand control technologies by combing classroom teaching and field inspection in Inner Mongolia, Ningxia, and other areas in Northwest China. Plant-based sand control measures and restorative vegetation were particular subjects of note. The training lasted 20 days. The closing ceremony of the training was held on July 17, 2010. All linked records are Chinese-organized desertification training courses held in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region for Arab countries. Record ID#85226 captures the first, held in 2006. Record ID#66932 captures the one held in 2016. Record ID#85229 captures the one held in 2017.
Staff comments
The Chinese training course name was 阿拉伯国家防沙治沙技术培训班. Since the Arab world includes countries not included in the Middle East and a list of the participating countries in this training is unknown, the recipient has been coded as "Multi-Region." The other participants were assumed to be ODA-eligible (Egypt, Syria, and Iraq were all eligible in 2010). Since the training was 20 days long and the closing ceremony was July 17, AidData has assumed that training began on June 27, 2010.
