Project narrative

On February 2, 2016, China Eximbank issued an RMB 470 million loan to Cambodia Bayon Air Co., Ltd. (Khmer: អាកាសចរណ៍ កម្ពុជា បាយ័ន/បាយ័នអ៊ែរឡាញ; Chinese: 柬埔寨巴戎航空有限公司 or 巴戎航空) and AVIC International Leasing Co., Ltd. to support domestic production of (MA60) civil aircraft in Cambodia. The first MA60 aircraft was delivered to Cambodia Bayon Airlines on December 15, 2014. The airline’s inaugural flight between Phnom Penh and Siem Reap took place on December 31, 2014. The airline’s inaugural international flight to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam took place on July 1, 2015. The airline ceased all operations in 2019. Cambodia Bayon Air Co., Ltd. (also known as Cambodia Bayon Airlines) is a project company and wholly-owned subsidiary of Bayon Airlines Holding Ltd., which was, in turn, a subsidiary of the Chinese state-owned carrier Joy Air. Cambodia Bayon Airlines was registered in April 2014, and its air operator's certificate was received in December 2014.
