Project narrative

In January 2018, a group of 10 military engineers from the Uganda People's Defense Force completed a 92-day training program in Hebei Province, China, sponsored by China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC). This was held at Shijiazhuang Tiedao University. The goal of the program was to sufficiently prepare the engineers with the necessary skills to construct the SGR line that will connect Uganda to the neighboring seaport of Mombasa in Kenya; CHEC has been contracted with the construction of this SGR (Record ID#60987, #59748, #37103, #31777, #47025, #66042, #52929, #52354). A memorandum of understanding was signed in August 2017 to this effect. The training program started on October 11, 2017, and the completion ceremony was held on January 16, 2018. The SGR railway is being funded by the China Eximbank, though it is unclear whether or not any of this funding went into this training program.
