Description

On December 2, 2019, the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Federal University of Transportation Daura was held. The ceremony was attended by Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, Nigerian Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, and Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria Zhou Pingjian. According to the Nigerian Ministry of Information, the China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) will build the University for free. The University's construction cost was valued at 18 billion Nigerian Naira. According to the CCECC, the University Project is a supporting project of the Nigerian Railway Modernization Project (ProjectID#60848). The University is being built to help train Nigerians in transportation related professions in order to for them to work on and operate railway projects developed by the CCECC. The CCECC had previously sent Nigerian students to study transportation in China. On September 12, 2020, Chang'an University and the CCECC signed a joint cooperation agreement on the development of the University. Courses for the University are being developed by Chang'an University and Xi'an Railway Vocational and Technical College. The CECC states the university will have a capacity of 1,500 undergraduates and 300 post-graduates. The university is being built in Daura, which is the hometown of President Buhari. According to the CCECC the college will have a library, a student activity center, academic buildings, dorms, and apartments. The Nigerian Minister of Transportation also stated that a primary and secondary school will be included in the final complex. As of August 2020, the project had undergone preliminary construction.
