Project narrative

In 2017, Haban provided a $1,775,994 grant to the University of the South Pacific for the Confucius Institute at its Laucala Campus in Fiji. The purpose of the project was to extend and renovate the facilities of the Confucius Institute at the Laucala Campus. A formal groundbreaking ceremony took place on October 13, 2017.

Staff comments

This project is also known as the Model CI USP Project or the Model CI-USP Project. The Confucius Institute at the University of the South Pacific’s Laucala Campus was first inaugurated on September 6, 2012 (see Record ID#44175). As of 2017, 4,086 students and staff had taken up the opportunity to learn Chinese language and culture at this Confucius Institute.
