Project narrative
On January 25, 2010, following a 7.2 magnitude earthquake in Haiti, the Chinese government granted 20 tons of medical supplies worth 18 million RMB (about 2.64 million U.S. dollars) to the Government of Haiti for emergency response efforts. The materials included medicines, hygiene equipment, medical devices and camping equipment. The equipment arrived on January 25, delivered by a 40-person medical team (see Record ID#40193). This medical team helped distribute the supplies.

This project, while the equivalent in USD is about the same, is distinct from project 40192. Project 40192 captures cash donations originally in USD. This project captures a grant of materials, worth approximately 18 million RMB/2.64 million USD. Further, "China provides aid worth 70 million yuan to Haiti" and "China announces more assistance to Haiti" include references to the cash and material grants as separate. This project is also separate from the supplies worth 30 million RMB that were disbursed in three batches (see projects 40190, 40209, and 40202). See, again, "Haiti 2010 Country Data" or "Chinese medical team, medical supplies leave for quake-hit Haiti." The costs associated with sending the medical team (see project 40193) may be included in the 18 million RMB.
