Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

On April 7, 2006, the Chinese Government and the Government of Mongolia signed an RMB 19 million grant agreement for the Peace Bridge Renovation Project. The purpose of the project was to repair a 337 meter bridge that runs from north to south over the Selbe River in Ulaanbaatar’s Khan-Uul district (exact locational coordinates: 47.9076, 106.9129). The bridge was constructed between 1958 and 1963 with a grant from the Chinese Government grant but it eventually fell a state of disrepair and became a safety hazard. In 2005, the Chinese Government dispatched experts to Mongolia to conduct a survey, inspect the bridge, and develop a maintenance plan. The bridge repair project was expected to commence in May 2006. Henan Provincial Communications Planning & Design institute Co., Ltd. was the contractor responsible for implementation. The project was started on May 13, 2006, and completed on December 21, 2007, but its precise implementation start date is unknown. After the completion of the project, local residents complained that the work that was performed was substandard.
