Project narrative

According to Chinese Government reporting to the World Food Program’s International Food Aid Information System (INTERFAIS), the Chinese Government donated and delivered 26,283 metric tons of rice (in 8 separate deliveries of 1169 tons, 3304 tons, 1906 tons, 245 tons, 1806 tons, 1815 tons, 2784 tons, and 13254 tons) to North Korea in 2006. To estimate the monetary value of the rice donation ($7,476,199.35), AidData takes the international price of a ton of rice in January 2006 ($284.45) and multiplies it by 26,283 tons.
