Project narrative

On 4 June 2006, Chinese and Mongolian government officials signed an Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement (ETCA) granting 50 million RMB to Mongolia (see ETCA #86359). Of this total amount, 25.6 million RMB was allocated towards the Zamiin-Uud (or Zamyn-Üüd) to Erlian Highway Reconstruction Project. Zamiin-Uud (or Zamyn-Üüd) is located in Mongolia and Erlian is across the border in China. The purpose of this project was to foster trade and transportation between the two countries. China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) was the implementing contractor. The 5.681-kilometer highway was officially opened to traffic on 10 November 2005.
