Description

In 2016, the Chinese Government funded the constrution of China-Senegal Friendship Fitness Park in Dakar. The park is located near the University of Dakar and is one of several such fitness parks that China is building throughout Senegal. According to Han Xiaofei, Economic and Commercial Counselor of Chinese Embassy in Senegal, multiple fitness parks have been built along the Corniche ouest Boulevard in Dakar by Chinese Embassy and Chinese enterprises in Senegal. The project is apparently only in Phase I, with the first fitness park costing slightly less than RMB 3 million. According to Chinese Ambassador to Senegal Zhang Xun, five fitness parks have been built in five of the country’s provincial capitals, and two more will be added. As of March 28, 2018, the Thies-China-Senegal Friendship Fitness Park was also complete.

Additional details

1. The French project title is Espace de loisirs de l'amitié Sino-Sénégalaise. The Chinese project title is 中塞友谊健身园. 2. It is unclear how much of the project was funded by the Chinese Government. It is stated to have been funded by the Chinese Embassy in Senegal and constructed by the Association of Chinese enterprises in Senegal. However, it is unclear if this is also the case for the first fitness park built in Dakar as well.
