Project narrative

On August 20, 2019, the Chinese Embassy awarded 83 Congolese students with academic scholarships to study in China for the 2019/2020 academic year during a farewell ceremony hosted by the Chinese Embassy in DRC. According to the DRC's Ministry of Higher and University Education, the majority of the students will be studying infrastructure, metallurgy, petrochemicals, computer technology, eco-finance, management, medicine and law, of the students there will 14 studying for their doctorates, 41 for their masters, and 28 for their licensures. Among the attendees at the farewell ceremony were the Minister of Higher and University Education, Mr. Pontien Kamina Kabangu. Originally, the number of scholarships that China grants is 50, but it has increased to 83 for this academic year. This makes the DRC the second largest recipient of scholarships on an African scale.
