Description

In October 2018, the Chinese Government dispatched the 34th medical team to Sudan for a one-year medical aid mission. The team consists of 42 members, all from Shaanxi, China, covering 14 majors including internal medicine, surgery, ophthalmology, obstetrics and gynecology. The team was stationed at the Abu Ushar Friendship Hospital, Omdurman Friendship Hospital, and Ad-Damazin Friendship Hospital, all of which were previously built with funding from the Chinese Government. On September 15, 2019, the medical team launched the Cataract Rejuvenation Project ("白内障复明工程"), which was a new ophthalmology clinic within the Omdurman Friendship Hospital (captured by Project ID#86894). On October 16, 2019, a farewell reception for the 34th medical team was held by Ambassador Ma Xinmin at the Chinese Embassy in Sudan. The Sudanese Minister of Health issued a certificate of honor to Chinese medical staff. Throughout the one-year mission, the team has treated a total of 71,051 patients and 1,879 inpatients and completed 4,235 surgeries. The Chinese Government has been sending medical teams to Sudan every year or so since April 1971.
