In September 2018, 45 students were provided scholarships to study at Central South University (CSU) as a part of the joint degree program between Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) and CSU. Of the 45 students, 30 were sponsored by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) (Record ID#86797) and the other 15 were sponsored by CSU (Record ID#86897). The joint degree program was established on April 28th, 2018 through a memorandum of understanding between representatives of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) and Central South University (CSU) in Changsha, Hunan. The MOU established a joint degree program between ABU and CSU. The joint degree program would allow third year ABU students majoring in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or Traffic Control Engineering to travel to CSU and spend two years studying there. Upon completion of the required courses at CSU, the students would graduate with a degree from each university.
