Description

In 2018, the China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) offered 40 scholarships for Nigerian undergraduates. The scholarships were to train students in railway engineering. However, the offer was only for students connected to high level Nigerian government officials. This circumstance led to a controversy in the Nigerian press. As such, although interviews for the scholarship were held in June 2018, it is unclear is any funding was ever actually provided. The China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation has been responsible to building several of Nigeria's recently developed railways (see projects #195, #1851, #34977, #60848). The stated purpose of the scholarships were to produce more native Nigerian engineers to work on Nigerian railroads that the CCECC has developed.
