Description

On 24 March 2005, the Chinese Government and Asian Development Bank (ADB) jointly established the People's Republic of China (PRC) Poverty Reduction and Regional Cooperation Fund. The China Ministry of Finance provided financing and ADB implemented the projects. The purpose of this special fund is to support the process of poverty reduction, regional cooperation and knowledge sharing for ADB developing member countries (DMCs) in the Asia-Pacific as well as Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) and Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) countries. According to a 2019 Annual Report (p. 35), on 23 July 2015, the Chinese Ministry of Finance approved $1.225 million USD from this special fund for three different Batch 1 projects: 1) $500,000 USD for "Strategy for Northeast Asia Power System Interconnection." Expected to close on 15 August 2019. 2) $500,000 USD for "Supporting the Asian Exim Banks Forum." Expected to close on 4 October 2020. 3) $225,000 USD for "Provision of Knowledge Products and Services to Developing Member Countries through Systematic Knowledge Sharing (supplementary)." Closed 1 February 2019. According to a 2019 Annual Report (p. 35), on 6 January 2016, the Chinese Ministry of Finance approved $1.3 million USD from this special fund for six different Batch 2 projects: 1) $500,000 USD for "Universal Health Coverage for Inclusive Growth: Supporting the Implementation of the Operational Plan for Health 2015–2020 (supplementary)." Expected to close on 31 December 2020. 2) $200,000 USD for "Capturing the Opportunities and Addressing the Risks (supplementary)." Expected to close 31 December 2019. 3) $500,000 USD for "Promoting Regional Knowledge Sharing Partnerships (supplementary)." Closed on 31 December 2018. 4) $500,000 USD for "Regional Evaluation Capacity Development II." Expected to close on 31 December 2019. 5) $500,000 USD for "Connecting the Railways of the Greater Mekong Subregion." Closed on 12 December 2018. 6) $600,000 USD for "Support for Project Implementation of the Nepal Earthquake Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Program (supplementary)." Expected to close on 31 December 2019.
