On March 24, 2019, the Commercial Counselor at the Chinese Embassy signed an agreement with the Sudan Dams Implementation Unit to assist Sudan for a well-digging project to help address the water shortage in impoverished rural areas of Sudan (援苏丹打井供水项目). Zhang Ming, Economic and Commercial Counselor of the Embassy in Sudan, and Musa Omar Abujasim, Director of the Dam Executive Bureau of the Ministry of Water and Electricity of Sudan, signed the agreement. The agreement is to implement 50 underground wells in the Nile and Northern states. The agreement was financed by China and is worth RMB 86 million. This project is part of Sudan's Zero Thirst Program. According to a media report on October 29, 2021, China Jiangxi International Economic and Technological Cooperation Company will be the contractor of the project. The project includes the construction of 25 new wells in the Nile State and the Northern State of Sudan, respectively, and they are equipped with solar photovoltaic submersible pumps. The contract duration is 18 months.
