Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

In early 2020, under the framework of the South-South Cooperation Assistance Fund, the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) signed an agreement to donate 6631 metric tons of food to four countries, including Lesotho. This package is expected to help Lesotho cope with food shortages that arose due to persistent droughts, as well as the prevalence of the Covid-19 pandemic. This donation was particularly targeted towards promoting maternal and pediatric health. This project was first reported on by the UN World Food Programme, who helped to distribute the donation, on February 10, 2020. The donation was received by the Prime Minister of Lesotho in a handover ceremony that was held on December 18, 2020. This donation was made following Lesotho's appeal to international partners for help in food security. China made a similar donation in 2019, which is captured in Record ID#87299.
