Project narrative

On August 27th, 2019, the Chinese Embassy held a send-off reception for about 111 students who were awarded the Chinese Government Scholarship. Speaking at a send-off reception for the students, Chinese Ambassador to Uganda Zheng Zhuqiang said this is the biggest number of students that have won the scholarships, noting that the number increased by 59 percent compared to last year. The scholarships will cover tuition fees, basic learning materials, accommodation, living allowance, outpatient medical service and comprehensive medical insurance. They will also cater for international airfare for the first trip to China and returning trip after completion of the study.The Chinese Government has been providing scholarships for Ugandan students to study in Chinese higher education institutions since the 1980s. This scholarship lasts for one year of education at a Chinese institution.
