Project narrative

On October 11, 2019, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for the Masindi Barracks Hospital project donated by China Electric Power Uganda Karuma 812 Joint Venture, which is effectively controlled by Sinohydro (China Water Resources and Hydropower Construction Corporation). The purpose of the project is to expand and transform the existing hospital, including a new operating room, laboratory, doctor's dormitory, nurse's dormitory, canteen, and the renovation and repair of some original buildings. Originally, the project was expected to finish in 8 months, but it was delayed because of the COVID-19 Pandemic. It was originally expected to cost $1.5 million, but eventually it cost $1.7 million. The project was constructed by local company Excel Construction ltd. and was finished on April 16, 2021 under the witness of officials from the Chinese companies and Uganda People's Defense Force (UPDF).
