Description
On July 2, 2020, the Government of the Peoples’ Republic of China (PRC) donated $3 million worth of drugs and equipment to the Liberian Ministry of National Defense for use by the 14th Military Hospital, located in Margibi County. Items donated include two intensive care unit ambulances, medical devices, laboratory equipment, emergency department equipment, obstetrics equipment, surgical equipment, and out-patient equipment. Only a portion of the materials were donated on July 2. The rest arrived in Liberia on September 25, 2020. The purpose of the donation ws to help alleviate the shortage of medical supplies on the continent in Liberia. The Minister of National Defense, Major General Daniel D. Ziankahn, Jr., (Rtd) received the donation on behalf of the Commander-in-Chief of the AFL, President George M. Weah. At the turnover ceremony of the medical equipment, the Chinese ambassador to Liberia, Ren Yisheng, promised the construction of a $20 million clinical reference lab (captured via Project ID#55600). The 14th Military Hospital is used by the Liberian military and other sectors of society.
