Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

In February 2019, the Chinese Embassy in El Salvador launched recruitment for Chinese government scholarships for students in El Salvador for the 2019/2020 academic year. On March 9, 2019, the Chinese Embassy conducted a centralized interview for applicants. On July 27, 2019, the Chinese Embassy held a ceremony for the 35 recipients who were admitted to 23 universities in China. The recipients included 25 undergraduates and 10 graduate students. This is the first year that 35 students from El Salvador were granted Chinese government scholarships under the "Education Cooperation Plan 2018-2023" signed on November 1, 2018, captured in linked Record ID#55585.

Staff comments

This project is technically not the first batch of Chinese government scholarships awarded to El Salvador students, since China previously awarded 35 scholarships to students who were studying in Taiwan to continue study in mainland China after the establishment of diplomatic relations with PRC in August 2018 (captured in #89322). However, this is the first batch actually recruited by the Chinese Embassy in El Salvador under the Education Cooperation Agreement from November 2018 captured in #55585.
