Project narrative

On April 3rd, 2013, China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) donated two washing machines and two dryers to the St. Mary Infirmary in Port Maria, St. Mary Parish. Present at the donation handover were CHEC general affairs manager, Yanming Xiao; Mayor of Port Maria Levan Freeman; Central St Mary MP Morais Guy; and Custos of St Mary, Jeffery McKitty. According to CHEC, the donation was worth around $500,000 Jamaican Dollars. The infirmary is a care home for the elderly, with 85 residents at the time of the donation. Previously, all laundering in the facility was done by hand. The donation was given in order to lighten the load of the laundresses at the infirmary.
