Project narrative

After the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and El Salvador in August 2018, China granted scholarships to 35 students from El Salvador to study in China who had received scholarships to study in Taiwan prior to the switch in diplomatic relations. According to the article from El Salvador Times, on September 4th 2018, the first group of Salvadorian students (a group of 9) arrived in China from Taiwan, and the rest of the students were to follow. China began to provide government scholarships to El Salvador students in November 2018 after signing the "Education Cooperation Plan 2018-2023" (See Record ID#55585).
