Project narrative

According to a report from the China International Development Cooperation Agency, on December 6th, 2019, China donated port and airport inspection equipment to Antigua and Barbuda. Loop News Barbados reports the equipment value totals USD $5 million, and that the donation included a mobile container and vehicle inspection system, a X-ray inspection system, a X-ray CT inspection system, a radioactive material monitoring system, 20 sets of hand-held metal detectors, and three sets of portable trace explosives and drug detectors. According to Loop News, Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda Gaston Browne stated that the equipment will significantly improve the efficiency of its customs' detection of imported goods, strengthen the capability of the Antigua and Barbuda government to combat crimes such as smuggling and drug trafficking, and contribute to the social and economic development of Antigua and Barbuda. Prime Minister Browne, Ambassador to Antigua and Barbuda Sun Ang, and Antigua and Barbuda Comptroller of Customs and Excise Division Raju Boddu were all present at the handover ceremony.
