On May 17th, 2019, the Chinese Consul General in Karachi, Wang Yu, attended the inauguration ceremony for the China-Pakistan Clinical Research Center of Traditional Chinese Medicine (CRCTCM) and the China-Pakistan Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ethnic Medicine Research Center (EMRC). The two research centers were jointly established by China's Hunan University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the University of Karachi, and Hunan Anbang Pharmaceuticals. According to Hunan University, the centers were approved by the Chinese National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and 1 million yuan in funding was designated for the project in 2017. Additionally, the construction of the Ethnic Medicine Research Center was complete as of February 17, 2017. According to media reports the centers combine a team of experts from China and Pakistan, and carry out research and development of herbal medicines. Activities would include cultivation of medicinal plants, botanical identification, phytochemistry, quality control, efficacy and safety evaluation and clinical trials. The CRCTCM and the EMRC would be under the auspices of the Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) of the University of Karachi.

1. Official sources state that the Ethnic Medicine Research Center (EMRC) was complete as of February 17, 2017 (see source ID #153369). However, the official inauguration of both centers was held on May 17, 2019 (see source ID #153359). 2. It appears that a corresponding center was established in Hunan in 2020.
